One of the more bizarre scenes in the "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" trailers depict Batman (Ben Affleck) in the desert fighting soldiers bearing the Superman crest and strange winged aliens. A new report from the Omelete now confirms that this is a nightmarish dream sequence.

According to the report, this is Bruce Wayne aka Batman's dream where he sees a post-apocalyptic world overtaken by Superman and other extraterrestials. Costume designer Michael Wilkinson further explained that it was director Zack Snyder's idea in order to show how obsessed Batman was with the threat Superman posed to the world.

"Zack had a great idea of this sort of nightmare-ish vision, almost a vision of the future, a post-apocalyptic vision. It's like a dream that Ben has, so we wanted to, it has almost a Mad Max quality to it where it's like the end of the world, trying to survive and then of course Superman and his minions come," Wilkinson stated.

According to a report from Screen Rant, fans have already speculated that this may indeed be a dream sequence. One of the first clues is that the color palette is akin to that of the sequence in "Man of Steel" where Zod (Michael Shannon) converses with Superman (Henry Cavill) inside the latter's mind.

The other element that shows this is a dream sequence is the appearance of numerous insect-like creatures. It was previously speculated that these might be droids or drones designed by Batman, but the report now indicates they are merely creations of the Batman's mind during his nightmare.

However, the creatures do resemble the soldiers primarily featured by one of the most powerful villains in the DC universe - Darkseid. Darkseid will most likely not appear in the film, although it is speculated he may be used as the primary villain in the upcoming "Justice League" films, also to be directed by Zack Snyder.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" will open in theaters on March 25, 2016.
