Apple unveiled the new 27-inch Retina 5K iMac during their special event last Oct. 16.  Now, customers are looking forward to discovering how the tech giant's latest offering can be an impressive competitor when it comes to Retina display technology.

While there was a less expensive iMac released last June, Apple unveiled an even newer version of its popular desktop computer alongside the iPad Air 2, the iPad mini 3, and the new Mac mini.  The 27-inch iMac with Retina display is now available as Apple started accepting orders after their major event last Thursday.

This 5K iMac with Retina display comes with a design similar to the other models in the iMac lineup, with an extra slim 5-mm edge.  Customers can look forward to an impressive desktop that comes with a 5120 x 2880 resolution with which more than 14 million pixels have been integrated into a 27-inch display, thus the term "Retina 5K display."

In comparison with a 4K display, the Retina 5K boasts 67 percent more pixels. When compared with a typical HD display, the Retina 5K has seven times the number of pixels. With such resolution, users can certainly enjoy more vibrant and intense colors, as Apple has promised.

Moreover, despite being incorporated with new graphics, the new iMac is expected to perform at least 30 percent more in terms of energy efficiency. Powered by a 3.5 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, the desktop also comes with an AMD Radeon 290X graphics chip, 8 GB of RAM as well as 1 TB Fusion Drive.

The new iMac with Retina display has already begun shipping this week with a starting price of $2,499 based on the said specifications.

However, prices will vary if customers request for build-to-order configurations.  These can include Turbo Boost speeds of up to 4.4 GHz, an increase of up to 32 GB of RAM, or an increase of up to a 3 TB Fusion Drive. Users can also request for an upgrade to a 4 GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor.
