Apple features new 'Free on iTunes' section on Apple iTunes App Store

Apple users can now binge on new music and TV shows as the company has just opened a new section in the iTunes App Store that gifts users with free content. The section is called "Free on iTunes."

Apple users that have an iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and computer running on OS X software will be able to enjoy the new feature using their respective iTunes accounts. The free content can be easily downloaded. Users can head to iTunes Store and click on the blue "Free on iTunes" section in the Music or TV Shows tabs. On the TV Shows tab, the free shows are denoted with a yellow Free tag. Currently, Apple offers 16 songs and 24 TV shows. The content has the [Get] button, instead of [Buy] button.

Users were ecstatic with the news and the new section is a welcome addition in iTunes as Apple ended some of its promotions that give users access to free content. Before, Apple gifted users with a free music track every week in its "Single of the Week" promotion. After its decade long run, the promo was discontinued. Moreover, users were also gifted with "App of the Week" wherein editors of the App Store selected an iPhone and iPad app every week that users could download for free.

Although the new section is quite similar to the "Single of the Week" promo, 9to5 Mac pointed out that Apple seems to be focused on offering contents that are looking for audience. It means that users will most likely not see hits to be offered for free unlike before.

Unfortunately, the "Free on iTunes" section is currently available to U.S.-based Apple users only. There is no word yet as to when the section will arrive in other regions. More details are expected to be out in the open soon. This new section will be beneficial for user expanding their music and TV shows collection.
