'Ant-Man' new trailer reveals Avenger cameo

Marvel Studios has been giving their upcoming film "Ant-Man" some "Avengers"-filled marketing materials, such as movie posters with the titular character standing atop Thor's hammer or on Iron Man's shoulder. According to a report from Collider, a Spanish-language TV spot for "Ant-Man" also reveals that an actual Avenger will be in the film.

At the 18-second mark in the TV spot, Sam Wilson aka Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie, is shown donning an entirely new black and red outfit. According to a report from Screen Rant, this would confirm a previous rumor about someone resembling the Falcon appearing at the 41-second mark in a previously released U.S. TV spot for "Ant-Man."

[Spoiler Warning] Fans of the MCU will recall that the Falcon officially became a member of the new team of Avengers at the end of "Avengers: Age of Ultron," under the leadership of Steve Rogers aka Captain America (Chris Evans). It is unclear if Falcon is acting on his own or if S.H.I.E.L.D.. and the Avengers have sent him to aid Scott Lang aka Ant-Man (Paul Rudd).

According to a report from Collider, it is also unclear if Falcon will be a major player in the film's events or if he is just appearing in a quick cameo or end-credits scene.

Falcon's inclusion does confirm a previous statement by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to Slash Film that "Ant-Man" will officially end Phase 2 of the MCU and will tie in the events and characters of "Avengers: Age of Ultron" to Phase 3's "Captain America: Civil War" and beyond.

"Ant-Man" tells the tale of former street thief Scott Lang as he uses a unique suit that grants him super-strength, the ability to shrink size, and even communicate with ants to he help his mentor and former Ant-Man Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) fight those who would use the Ant-Man technology for selfish and nefarious purposes.

"Ant-Man" opens nationwide this July 17.
