Several versions of the Sony Xperia line will finally be getting their Android Marshmallow updates this year.

The upcoming software updates are first expected to arrive for the Xperia Z5 smartphones, according to the International Business Times Australia.

This means that owners of the Xperia Z5, the Z5 Compact, and the Z5 Premium can expect to make use of the new software soon, although an exact arrival date for the Android Marshmallow update remains unclear.

Xperia Z4 owners can also expect the new software to arrive for their phones sometime in 2016.

Sony will also be rolling out Android Marshmallow updates for other phones released in 2015 such as the Xperia Z3+, C4, C5 Ultra, M4 Aqua, and the M5.

Sony units released in 2014 such as the Xperia Z3, Z3v, Z3 Tablet Compact, Z2, and the Z2 Tablet are also expected to receive the Android Marshmallow update, according to GSM Arena.

Lastly, the Xperia Z Ultra GPE released back in 2013 is also expected to get the new software at some point in 2016.

With the Android Marshmallow update set to arrive for several Sony smartphones sometime this year, owners would be best served to familiarize themselves with some of the new features they can use.

For example, the new software will bring some new battery saving apps designed to help users improve their energy efficiency. New features such as Doze and App Standby should help greatly when it comes to making the batteries of smartphones last longer.

The Android Marshmallow update will also introduce the Now on Tap feature to smartphones.

According to the official Android website, the new Now on Tap app will allow users to find useful information much easier than ever before.

More news about the Android Marshmallow update should be made available soon as the operating system arrives to more devices.
