The latest Android L update is unofficially available for the Google Nexus 4 and 7.
The tech giant recently announced the next version of the Android OS, also dubbed simply as L. The company is currently rolling out the source codes for the Nexus devices for the developer version of the OS.
While Google published Android L source codes for the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10, the developer preview firmware was only available for the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 wi-fi 2013 edition devices.
However, XDA developers provided an unofficial version of the Android L developers' version for the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7. However, since the firmware was not official, many members of the forum said that the firmware is faulty. Moreover, the developer that built it notes, it's "fairly useless" since many critical features do not work.
This year, Google released its new software differently as it gives developers a preview version of the OS as well as a subset of source code. This will allow the developers to play with the new operating system and make the appropriate changes to the apps.
On the other hand, reports claimed that the new mobile software will resemble a desktop OS. Based on the presentations of Google at the Developers' event, users will expect more animations and touch feedback when using the new OS. It seemed that the UI also offers 3D experience.
Users should also expect the next line of Google devices to be more powerful since the new OS hinted that it will support high end specs and features. First, the operating system is compatible with 64-bit processors and is more efficient. Moreover, the new software allegedly packed a PC-level graphics performance in devices. Lastly, Android L introduced the Project Volta, which is claimed to make the battery life of the device more efficient and to support the power hogging features of the Android-based gadgets.
