Google officially rolled out the latest flavor of the Android operating system, Lollipop, in November, but the mobile software was clouded with bugs and issues. This happened despite Google's initiative in rolling out a developer preview in an attempt to sweep off bugs from the OS.

Now, there are reports predicting that Nexus devices will receive a major patch update in February to fix the major issues once and for all. Moreover, the flagship smartphones of Sony and HTC rumored to roll out with the 5.0 version are speculated to be shipped with a more stable version of the Android OS.

Just like the other Android updates, Nexus devices and Google Play Edition devices are first in line in getting the OS update. Sony and HTC are quick in delivering updates to their respective devices. However, the delivery of the update to Android-based devices depends on the manufacturer as they still have to work on the customized user interface on top of Google's Android.

These claims are backed up by a report from Android Pit which added that the major Android 5.1 Lollipop OS update will be rolled out to other Android devices from manufacturers in summer or in June or July. Android Pit also included a changelog for the alleged Android 5.1 Lollipop OS update.

Below are some of the bug fixes that are said to be included in the firmware update:

  • Silent mode added after missing on Android 5.0
  • General improvements in system stability
  • Improved RAM management
  • Fixes for sudden app closures
  • Improved battery management
  • Excessive consumption of network devices when used Wi-Fi fixed
  • Issues with wireless connections fixed
  • Problems with Okay Google function solved
  • Notifications problems solved
  • Some sound problems experience by certain devices fixed
  • Other improvements and changes
  • Changes in the Material Design color palette (after users' complaints, possibly for a higher version though)
