Sprint started rolling out the latest Android 4.4.4 Kitkat OS update for its Samsung Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 3.

The 4.4.4 version of the Android Kitkat is speculated to be the last update of the current firmware before the tech giant Google will announce the next generation of Android operating system – 5.0 L. The new mobile software is set to be launched alongside a Google device this fall.

The carrier started rolling out the Android 4.4.4 Kitkat OS update for its Moto X devices last month.

Meanwhile, some Android-based devices are already enjoying the fixes brought about by the Android 4.4.4 Kitkat OS. The update is claimed to bring fixes to security issues such as the OpenSSL bug.

"The software update will upgrade your Nexus 5 to 4.4.4, which improves performance, security, stability and fixes bugs," the update page which flashes on the devices reads.

The Android 4.4.4 Kitkat OS update is a crucial update compared to the previous Android 4.4.3 Kitkat, as the former brings the overall version of KTU84P firmware. The latest update brought very minimal changes to the devices such as slight changes to Chromium Web browser and WebView.

Fans who wish to install the OS update can go to the Settings of their Android-based smartphone to see if their handset is ready to receive the Android 4.4.4 Kitkat OS. Anyone who has not received the update need not worry as the roll out of the update does not take place all at once. Some users may receive the notification over a few days.

Android 4.4.4 Kitkat OS update requires 285 MB of free space. When installing the software, users must ensure that thier smartphones have enough battery and has a strong internet connection.

Meanwhile, Android L OS is set to roll out this fall alongside a new Google device.
