'American Horror Story' season 5 news: New trailers released

 FX

FX has launched its official video campaign for "American Horror Story" season 5, titled "American Horror Story: Hotel." The first trailer is titled "Hallways," and several sneak peeks, such as "Beauty Rest," "Dropped Call" and "Locked Up," have followed.

All of the promotional trailers are rather short, never lasting more than half a minute, with the majority of them only 16 seconds long. However, these short trailers showcase the first real official look at the main cast in their roles, particularly singer Lady Gaga as the hotel's owner Elizabeth aka the Countess.

The trailers also give early previews of Angela Bassett as Ramona, a character who has a romantic connection to the Countess; Kathy Bates as the hotel's manager Iris; Evan Peters as the eccentric Mr. March; Matt Bomer as Iris' son Donovan; Sarah Paulson as the junkie resident Hypodermic Sally; and Wes Bentley as the detective investigating the murders going on in the hotel.

Max Greenfield will also be in this season, and according to TVLine, series creator Ryan Murphy stated that Greenfield is part of "the most disturbing scene" they have ever done thus far.

Denis O'Hare, Emma Roberts, Lily Rabe, Cheyenne Jackson, Richard T. Jones, Darren Criss and Madchen Amick will also be in "American Horror Story: Hotel."

This will be the first season without series veteran Jessica Lange. Lange is most notable for her portrayal of Constance back in season 1 and Elsa Mars in "Freak Show."

Like all previous seasons of "American Horror Story," this season will stand alone in terms of narrative and characters. This means newcomers are not required to watch the previous four seasons to comprehend what "Hotel" focuses on. However, there will be cameos and small connections that long-time fans will be delighted to see, such as the return of the "Murder House" from season 1.

"American Horror Story: Hotel" premieres on Oct. 7.
