AMD Radeon RX 480 price: $200 and $230 variants releasing June 29

AMD Radeon RX 480 AMD

The AMD Radeon RX 480 is set to launch by June 29, reports Yibada, alongside the RX 470 and the RX 460. The 480 in particular is set to go up against the likes of the Nvidia GTX 1080 and the GTX 1070, both of which cost well over $300 a piece.

According to WCCF Tech, the AMD Radeon RX 480 is set to come in two variants. One is a 4GB GDDR5 card that will cost $199 and the other is an 8GB DDR5 card that will cost $229. In comparison, the 4GB 470 will cost $149 and the 8GB 470 will cost $179 while the 4GB 460 will cost $99 and the 8GB 460 will cost $129.

The report also reveals that the RX 480, despite being significantly less expensive than Nvidia's latest offerings, is relatively competitive in performance and power. In a 3DMark Firestrike Ultra benchmark, the 480 cards managed to achieve a total score of 4,880 points. In comparison, the GTX 1080 garnered a 5,000-5,1000 score.

Yibada points out that there are no definitive benchmark tests yet for the RX 470 and the RX 460, which may indicate that there might not be too much of a difference. However, AMD is likely focusing solely on the performance of the RX 480 as it will lead to higher profits and is designed for high-end gaming and video editing.

Despite this, the RX 480 does have a significant advantage over the known specs of the 470 and the 460 thus far. As shown in a chart from WCCF Tech the RX 480  utilizes 2,304 stream processors compared to the 1,024 stream processors of the RX 460 and the former has a memory bandwidth of 256 GB/s while the RX 460's is at 112 GB/s.

According to PC World, the RX 480 is also a two-generation leap as it is the first AMD GPU to utilize a 14nm architecture. Former AMD video cards utilized the older 28nm designs that were larger and less powerful.

All three of the AMD video cards will be released on June 29.
