'Alien 5' spoilers: Adult Newt teased in new concept art

A previous report reveals that Neill Blomkamp's "Alien 5" has not been cancelled but is still delayed in order to give priority to Ridley Scott's "Alien: Covenant," the sequel to the 2012 prequel film "Prometheus." Blomkamp continues to spark interest for the new film by releasing brand new concept art showcasing an adult Newt.

Blomkamp posted the image via Instagram as part of Alien Day, the anniversary celebration for the "Alien" film franchise. The new image hints that the adult Newt will be one of the main protagonists in "Alien 5," and as stated in a report from IGN, it is suggested that this Newt will be joining some type of military force.

The report points out that the story will see Newt pick up interest to join the military after the events of "Aliens" given that she no longer has any living relatives. Admiration or gratitude towards Hicks (Michael Biehn) may have motivated the girl to become a soldier when she got older and the two may even be working together in "Alien 5."

Newt also appears to be in her 20s, hinting that "Alien 5" may be the last film with Sigourney Weaver in the lead as she passes the responsibility to Newt as the new face of the franchise. This would allow the studios to make more films, focusing now on Newt as the main protagonist.

It is also important to note that if "Alien 5" indeed moves forward, this concept art confirms even further that the film will ignore the events of "Alien 3" and "Alien Resurrection," treating itself as a true sequel to "Alien" and "Aliens." Newt dies in the very beginning of "Alien 3" and it now appears that the fifth film will rewrite the events to keep her intact.

While this is all a sign that "Alien 5" is steadily in development even with the delay, a report from Screen Rant points out that nothing has yet been secured. If "Alien: Covenant" would fail in the box office or received lukeward reviews similar to "Prometheus" then the studios may be reluctant to green-light "Alien 5."

If you look at the Church of England’s communications all that it ever seems to highlight is the good works that Christians do to improve the temporal well-being of their neighbours. It is right to highlight these things, but they are not the primary reason for the Church’s existence.
