'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 3B spoilers: Trailer shows Slingshot in action

The extended trailer for "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 3 episode 11, courtesy of Yahoo!, not only showcases Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) as the new villain known as Hive but it also gives audiences their very first look at Elena Rodriguez aka Slingshot, played by Natalia Cordova-Buckley.

In the comic books, the character's name is Yo Yo Rodriguez but this was altered presumably to give the character a more grounded name and backstory. According to a report from Screen Rant, Marvel Studios is describing Slingshot as "a street-wise Colombian woman given Inhuman abilities."

Slingshot has the ability to run at really high speeds, but as her name suggests, she eventually has to be pulled back instantly to her original place of origin. This differentiates her from other fast-moving characters such as DC Comics' Flash or Marvel's own Quicksilver since they can move freely without being brought back to their original running point.

In the original Marvel comic books, she is a member of the Secret Warriors, but in the trailer she is shown fighting off Agent Mack (Henry Simmons). It is widely speculated that this is all part of the recruitment process and that the clip in question is when the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. approach her for the first time. She may later gain their trust and join the team.

The Secret Warriors, a band of Inhumans working for S.H.I.E.L.D., have been heavily teased throughout the first part of season 3 and it is now likely that the second half of season 3 will see Agent Daisy Johnson aka Quake (Chloe Bennet) form the team of Inhumans in order to combat Hive and the Inhumans that have gone rampant.

Inhumans other than Slingshot have been shown in the extended trailer but it is unclear at this point who they are and what team they offer their allegiance to.

"Agents of SHIELD" season 3 episode 11 will air March 8.
