While a premiere date has yet to be set for the new season of "Wayward Pines," the story for season 3 is becoming fleshed out little by little. Speculations suggest that the new season will introduce a one thousand-year time jump.

According to Yibada, season 3 of "Wayward Pines" will introduce a co-existence between the humans and Abbies, set a thousand years after the events in season 2. While it remains unconfirmed, having the humans waking up from their cryo-pods after a thousand years is highly possible, given hints on what season 3 may be all about.

In a previous interview with Zap2It, author Blake Couch has hinted that season 3 will be the "darkest yet" for humans. Reportedly, the humans waking up from their cryo-pods will have to co-exist with the Abbies, as the new season may spell doom for both races. Allegedly, the events of season 2, particularly Kerry Campbell (Kacey Rohl) trying to infect the Abbies, will lead to new, evolved enemies for humans and Abbies alike.

Since there are newer, more powerful enemies, it is also said that some characters will have to say goodbye in season 3. Rumored characters that will exit the show include Dr. Theo Yedlin (Jason Patric) and CJ Mitchmum (Djimo Hounsou).

Meanwhile, Couch also stressed that although there may be a massive time skip, the premiere for season 3 will immediately continue where the cliffhanger for the previous season left off. The author of the "Wayward Pines Trilogy" also adds that the season 2 finale is an intentional lead into the upcoming new series run.

Although bits and pieces of the new season continue to float online, it remains to be seen when fans can expect season 3 of "Wayward Pines" to premiere. According to speculations, FOX executives are still tallying the view numbers for season 2.
