'Elder Scrolls 6' release date pushed back due to 'Fallout 4' and 'Elder Scrolls Online?'

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited Bethesda and ZeniMax Studios

"The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" is arguably one of the most popular Western RPGs in recent years but the game came out as far back as 2011. As pointed out in a report from Cross Map, Bethesda Softworks is known for releasing a new "Elder Scrolls" game every four years but to this date there is no sight of "The Elder Scrolls VI."

According to the report, the potential release date for "The Elder Scrolls VI" is likely to be no sooner than 2019 and this may extend to 2020 if needed. Bethesda is known for keeping a small development team, and as previously reported, the company does not divide this small team to work on several projects simultaneously.

This means the entire development division of Bethesda Softworks is entirely busy working on "Fallout 4" while ZeniMax Studios, a separate subsidiary, is working on "The Elder Scrolls Online." The online MMORPG did see a release back in 2014 but only gained widespread attention when it launched for consoles last year.

If the online game is to be counted as a proper "Elder Scrolls" game then this would be Bethesda's solution to the four-year release schedule. With that in mind, "The Elder Scrolls VI" would launch at least four years after the online title and that puts the sixth entry within a 2019 release window.

"The Elder Scrolls VI" is speculated to take place in either Argonia, Valenwood or even in Skyrim a second time around, making it the only instance a direct sequel would release in the franchise.

However, it is also important to note that at this moment Bethesda Softworks has not yet officially made any announcements regarding "The Elder Scrolls VI." The game may already be in development, it may be in the early stages of concept designing, or the company may not have done anything regarding the game yet.
