It's widely believed that Microsoft has been working on the still unofficial Surface Pro 4, but what can consumers reasonably expect the rumored device to feature?

Given the fact that the Surface Pro 4 itself has not been formally announced, the specs and features associated with the device are just rumors for now, but they have been getting more consistent recently.

One of the most popular rumors concerning the Surface Pro 4 suggests that it will be featuring Intel's new Skylake chips when it is eventually released.

According to Forbes, one of the reasons for why Microsoft may have delayed the Surface Pro 4 to this point is they have been waiting for the arrival of the new Skylake models. Some still believe Microsoft may go in a different direction by using Intel's Broadwell chips instead. If Microsoft does end up using the Broadwell chips, it would likely be because the company wanted to keep the Surface Pro 4 as thin as possible.

The Surface Pro 4 is also expected to run the Windows 10 operating system when it debuts. Combined with the Skylake chips, that could allow the device to provide users with some unique features such as added functionality when it comes to utilizing Cortana.

Another potentially positive feature to be gained from utilizing the Skylake chips for the Surface Pro is the longer battery life that the new devices could possess.

There will reportedly be four different variants of the rumored Microsoft product, ranging from 64 GB of internal storage and then going up to 128 GB, 256 GB, and also 500 GB, according to Tech Radar.

Intel's RealSense 3D camera is also expected to be found on the Surface Pro 4 from Microsoft upon being released.

The rumored device could also feature new accessories, most notably, a stylus from now Microsoft-owned N-Trig.

No official word yet on when Microsoft will formally introduce the Surface Pro 4.
