'Person of Interest' season 5 spoilers: Plans for shortened season

 CBS

Although CBS ordered a shortened fifth season for Jonathan Nolan's sci-fi crime drama "Person of Interest" this fall, series executive producer Greg Plageman and actor Michael Emerson both promised that fans will not be disappointed in the show's upcoming 13 episodes.

Plageman said in an interview with IGN  earlier this month that despite the network ordering only 13 episodes instead of the usual 22 to 23 episodes, they made sure to use the limited time to come up with an explosive season.

The executive producer explained that the prodution team behind "Person of Interest" is used to having plots connected together with the use of multiple consecutive episodes before reaching a breathtaking climax. But since they only have 13 episodes this time, Plageman said that they have already come up with a plan to make this season as exciting as the previous ones.

"To sustain the excitement and the serialized aspects for that long. But I think this year, with the 13 episodes, the really great part about that is that we're just building and building throughout. And what we have planned for the final three episodes of Season 5 is amazing," the series executive producer said.

Meanwhile, Emerson teased what fans should look forward to in the upcoming season of the crime sci-fi series. According to the actor, who portrays wealthy software engineer Harold Finch, season 5 will initially delve into the implication of rebuilding and reprogramming the Machine.

Emerson is also open to the possibility of having more deaths toward the end of the season. "You'll see Sarah Shahi and Carrie Preston, and I think because we're thinking of this like an ending -- although I'm guessing it will be ambiguous enough to be pursued later on -- it's an ending.," he shared. "Splashy endings usually involve casualties. So I think we're likely to either lose characters or have them somehow transformed."

The official release date of "Person of Interest" season 5 is yet to be announced.
