The news about the alleged sequel of "Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance" that made a big buzz online over the weekend turns out to be a hoax.

Talks about the rumored release of the new installment of the "Metal Gear" series stemmed from the 2015 Taipei Game Show, wherein the attendees of the said event reportedly noticed a stylized number 2 resembling the "Metal Gear Rising" logo that was flashed for a second.

According to the observers, the teaser was shown during the screening of the third-person shooter game "The Order: 1886" for PlayStation 4 when one of the characters was counting down. The number appeared when the character said the word "two."

Fans of the popular hack and slash game from Platinum Games and Kojima Productions were immediately thrilled after the news about the alleged development of the sequel started pouring in.

However, Game Awards producer Geoff Keighley posted a clarification about the said rumor in his Twitter account after he got a word with "Metal Gear" publisher Ken-Ichiro Imaizumi, saying that there is no sequel being made for Metal Gear Rising.

According to the tweet, "Slice that rumor: No Metal Gear Rising 2 tease at Taipei games show. Spoke to @Ken1555 from @Kojima_Pro_Live, it is not true."

Imaizumi also denied the validity of the rumor in his own Twitter account, saying that the trailer was made by Sony Computer Entertainment, and he was not informed about the meaning of the stylized number 2 in it.

A lot of fans were utterly disappointed when Konami disproved the "Metal Gear Rising 2" rumor, since the clamor for the sequel had been very strong ever since its release back in 2013.

"Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance" is the ninth canonical installment of the "Metal Gear" series, which came after "Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops."

Sony Computer Entertainment has yet to release a statement regarding the connection of the number 2 in the "Metal Gear Rising" series.
