'Lost' season 7 revival news: Could the series return? ABC boss reveals reboot status

Despite so many fan-favorite TV series being brought back to life recently, fans should not expect the island-based survival show "Lost" to get the same treatment. ABC has no plans of reviving it, at least not yet. However, it is not something the network is ruling out either.

ABC president Channing Dungey told TV Line at the Television Critics Association's (TCA) winter press tour: "We have not had any official discussions about that. It's something that's on a list of, 'Wouldn't that be great if... ,' but at this point it's only at that place."

It has almost been eight years since the drama closed the curtain on ABC, and that is long enough to warrant a revival and reboot. That is why when former "Lost" executive producer Carlton Cuse was given a four-year development deal with ABC, speculation immediately sparked that he may be about to bring the series back to life.

However, when asked whether she already sat and chat with Cuse about that rumor, Dungey made it clear she has not yet for any potential project.

Co-executive producer Damon Lindelof previously said he is both excited and curious if the show would be revived to tell a new story about the island, but he just would not be involved anymore.

"It would be really exciting if there's another incarnation of Lost," he told the publication in a separate interview. "I just won't have any association with it. Not because I'm too good for it. I just feel like, again, we worked so hard to end our story, that to come back and say, 'Well, that wasn't the real ending,' would be frustrating."

The latest update will surely be disappointing for most fans, but they should take solace in the fact that ABC is in no rush to reboot the show. Having been one of the network's most popular franchises, a "Lost" revival has the potential to become one of the worst things to ever happen on TV. It could break the series, so maybe waiting for the right concept and pitch to come along is the right move.
