With her unique style and a string of edgy, dark roles under her belt, Kristen Stewart has given many people the impression that she's always in a serious mood. The actress rarely smiles for the camera on the red carpet, which also caused people to think that she is unfriendly, but the "American Ultra" star said that she's not as aloof as many people think she is. 

In an interview conducted by her friend Juliette Lewis for the latest issue of Elle UK, the star said that in real life, she's much more lighthearted and that she actually smiles "a lot." 

"The whole smiling thing is weird because I actually smile a lot," said the "Twilight" star, as quoted by Us Weekly. "I literally want to be like, 'Dude, you would think I was cool if you got to know me.'" 

And although many celebrities have taken to social media to promote their work and stay connected to their fans, Stewart said that she would rather keep her private life under wraps and that she doesn't want to share her world on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media app. She said that she's not anti-social media — she just hasn't decided to do it.

"The idea of addressing such a massive group … I don't know who I'm talking to, it doesn't make any sense to me," she said. 

And though she's had moments in her life where she definitely could use some cheering up, the actress said that an encounter with singer Patti Smith during one of her darkest times has definitely helped her a lot. 

"[Patti Smith] was like, 'I just want you to know that your people care about you, that we're here for you, and I'm your people.' And we kind of stayed in touch," the actress said of the legendary singer.

Stewart will be seen in this year's "Equals," a futuristic love story starring Nicholas Hoult and Guy Pearce. She is also set to star in an untitled Woody Allen film which boasts a star-studded cast including Bruce Willis, Blake Lively, and Jesse Eisenberg.
