'Justice League' spoilers: Cyborg's strengths and weaknesses

Victor Stone aka Cyborg DC Comics

As part of the "Dawn of the Justice League" preview shown on The CW, hosted by Kevin Smith and the DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, one of the characters discussed was Victor Stone aka Cyborg, who will be played by actor Ray Fisher in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and the two-part "Justice League" films.

According to Johns, Cyborg will closely resemble his origin story in the comic books, in particular the latest origin shown in the New 52 storyline. Victor is portrayed as an athlete while his father is a scientist. Victor gets into a horrifying accident, which should have killed him but his father saves him by transforming him into a cyborg.

Kevin Smith notes that in this day and age, this makes Cyborg all the more powerful and it is not just because he is basically half-human and half-machine but also because of the Internet. Cyborg is now capable of absorbing information continually, which makes him connected and online 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Cyborg is also stated to have no need for sleep. All he needs to do is keep his machine side functional and he'll be ready for combat.  According to Fisher, it is this aspect of Cyborg that eventually becomes his major weakness.

"He is a technopath, which means he can just interface seamlessly with anything technological," Fisher explained. This power allows him to hack into any computer network around the world. "His greatest weakness is actually trying not to succumb to the technology. Trying to stay human."

As pointed out in the video preview, Cyborg was originally a member of the Teen Titans but in the New 52 reboot of the DC comics lineup, he has now been upgraded as a founding member of the Justice League. With his cameo appearance in "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," it is likely that the studios will utilize his New 52 role as their basis.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" opens in theaters this March 25 while Cyborg is scheduled to get his own film by 2020.
