The guessing game on whether "Half-Life 3" will still be released or not rages on within the gaming community. Some fans think that the update to the iconic game will be released in two years' time, while some players are in doubt that "Half-Life 3" is being developed by Valve at all.

Recently, the Rolling Stone reported about the agonizing wait for the follow-up to the Half-Life series, which was abruptly halted in October 2007. The popular magazine called "Half-Life" as "an important milestone in the development of games."

Rolling Stone also pointed out how Minecraft creator Markus "Notch" Persson recently tweeted something of a plea: "hl3pls." This tweet, a standard cry among the gaming community, gave hope to some gaming fans that Persson has insider information that "Half-Life 3" is indeed being released soon.

This hope, however, was quickly dashed by Persson himself by saying: "I have zero information about hl3 other than to confirm that it's coming out tomorrow (for real, I know nothing)."

Despite this letdown, loyal "Half-Life" fans are still not giving up hope. In fact, Game N Guide reported that some gamers are anticipating that Valve's "Half-Life 3" will be released in 2018.

Why this projected release date two years from now? Fans are speculating that "Half-Life 3" will be released in time for the iconic game's 20th anniversary in 2018.

There are also talks within the gaming community that the update to the "Half-Life" series will be VR-compatible, as to adjust to today's generation of hardware, although little to no details have been released by Valve on the game so far.

The last time fans heard about "Half-Life 3" from its developers was last year, when Valve's chief executive officer Gabe Newell mentioned the title of the game in passing, while listing reasons for his studio's newfound commitment to multiplayer gaming.
