The future of Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) looks bleak when "Grey's Anatomy" returns for the second half of season 13.

The ninth episode titled "You Haven't Done Nothin'" showed that Alex was willing to take the plea deal that will require him to spend time in prison for two years for assaulting Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti). He came up with the decision after Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) confessed about her previous traumatic marriage, which is the reason why she is having a hard time deciding to testify for him in the court.

If Alex will choose to protect Jo from being tracked down by her ex-husband, this means that he will have to accept the plea deal. This could also mean that Alex will have to say goodbye to his colleagues at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital to spend time in jail.

But Alex is not the only one who might be missing from the Seattle hospital. The midseason finale also revealed that Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) left Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd). But is this Amelia's final decision?

In an interview with Variety, McKidd revealed that it is hard to tell whether the couple will finalize their separation. But he hoped that they can still manage to work through their issues, including their different opinion about having children.

"I wish and pray for Owen that he will one day get that child, and be with someone that wants to have that child with him, and I hope that person is Amelia — but right now, I think that ball is in her court," the actor stated. "Eventually Owen is going to have to say he can only do this so many times and he can't do it anymore."

Also, McKidd revealed that there will be several one-off episodes when "Grey's Anatomy" returns for the remaining episodes of season 13 on Thursday, January 19, 2017.
