Google Nexus 5 red and yellow color options? Samsung Galaxy Gear compatibility - by the back door! [VIDEO][PHOTO]

Apple made things bright and colorful with its iPhone C and now looks like Google wants in on the game to with a dash of bold red and yellow to brighten up its Google Nexus 5.

A Vietnamese website posted a picture supposedly of the Google Nexus 5 in a deep red and claimed in the accompanying article that the device would also be coming out in yellow.  See the photo here

The picture reportedly shows the model version, not commercial product version, but the website speculates that - in Vietnam at least - it could be hitting the shelves some time in February or March.

A video on TinyPic almost confused the picture with a video by an unidentified guy showing what looked like a Google Play page offering the device in six color options - with blue, purple, green and orange being the additional colors.

However, the conclusions are that the video is a fake.  See Phandroid's report.

The question is whether the picture on Vietnamnet is also a fake.

Now, cases are available for the Google Nexus 5 in bright red and yellow but that's not enough of course for fans of color who feel somewhat restricted in the uninspired range of black and white for every Google Nexus that has so far hit the market.

Whatever, it's been well received by critics and consumers alike, for its pleasing combination of power and price.

It runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and has a speedy Snapdragon 800 processor, although it scores lower marks in the camera stakes compared to its rivals.

Now, in addition to that, a nifty little trick has emerged to wrap up this little package of power nicely - although we can be pretty sure Google - and probably Samsung - wouldn't approve.

The Nexus 5 after all was not built to support the Samsung Galaxy Gear and Samsung themselves have certainly been a little tight when it comes to even which of their own devices can use it - basically those with Android 4.3

Developers have worked out that if APKs are taken out of a file and reinstalled manually, the Galaxy Gear will work with the Nexus - everything except the S-Voice and Weather functions.

Safe to say that's the simple explanation. If you feel up to re-jigging things yourself, SmartWatchFans have helpfully produced a how-to guide.

Good luck!
