'Fallout 4' PS4 mods release date update: Bethesda confirms mod support for console is not cancelled

 Bethesda Softworks

"Fallout 4" began supporting the mod community early in the year with mod support for PC launching in April and for the Xbox One in May. The PS4 mod support update was intended to launch in June but has since been delayed yet according to a report from Metro, it has not yet been cancelled.

According to the report, Bethesda Softworks executive of marketing Pete Hines has explained that PS4 mod support is still underway and despite the rumors it has not been cancelled. Metro also stated that Hines may have implied that one of the causes for the delay comes from Sony and their evaluation process.

This may be due to Sony ensuring that the mod support for "Fallout 4" is free from glitches, runs well on the PS4, PS4 Pro and the PS4 Slim, and to ensure that Playstation accounts are safe from hackers given that mods can sometimes open the doors for identity theft and other forms of damages caused by hacking.

"It's definitely not that we've decided not to do it, we absolutely, positively want to get PS4 mods out as fast as humanely possible," Hines explained regarding when PS4 mod support might be released, confirming that it is still in development and will be launched in the future.

Fans speculate that mod support for "Fallout 4" is vital for Bethesda Softworks given that the upcoming remaster of "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim," dubbed the "Special Edition," will also be bringing mod support and it won't go by smoothly until mod support for "Fallout 4" has been completed.

It is speculated that PS4 mod support will launch prior to the release of "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Special Edition" which is launching in October.

During the same interview, Hines did hint that the company may be working soon on something like "Fallout 5" or "The Elder Scrolls VI" but there were other new IPs that they were excited to introduce. Hines also confirmed that Bethesda may be showcasing these new games during E3 2017.
