"Edge of Tomorrow 2" has been confirmed by director Doug Liman, along with confirmation that the first film's two leads, Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, will be returning for the flick.

In an interview with Collider, Liman dished out that the sequel will be titled "Live Die Repeat and Repeat," which recalls the first film's storyline, which saw both characters dying several times because of a time loop. Interestingly, the original title of "Edge of Tomorrow" is "Live. Die. Repeat.", which was also carried over on the Blu-ray copies and video-on-demand version of the film.

Liman also indicated in the interview that the film will be a sequel unlike any other. He said, "I had these intellectual ideas on how you should make a sequel that are unlike how anybody else makes a sequel, and this script and this idea fit perfectly into that idea." He added that the film will be his way of revolutionizing how filmmakers produce sequels, although he did not clarify how he will be doing this.

While no details were given, Liman still enthused about the upcoming film project. He said, "We have an amazing story! It's incredible! Way better than the first film, and I obviously loved the first film." He also conveyed that both Cruise and Blunt are excited about the project as well.

The question, however, is when the film will be produced and released. Liman admitted in the interview that the film has no set deadline or release date yet, although he was quick to say that it was not a question of "if," but rather "when." Given their busy schedules — Cruise is currently shooting "Mission Impossible 6," Blunt is working on "Mary Poppins Returns," and Liman is attached to his own film projects, "The Wall" and "Justice League Dark" — it is likely that the film will come out in a few years' time.
