The official statement from the network, shared by TVLine, reads: "Due to an over-run in coverage of the Republican National Convention, a portion of last night's season finale of Bones was pre-empted on the West Coast. Those who were able to watch the season 11 finale found out that Brennan's (Emily Deschanel) kidnapper was her old Smithsonian colleague Zack Addy (Eric Millegan). During the show's 2016 San Diego Comic Con panel, co-showrunner Michael Peterson revealed that there are still a lot to look forward to regarding Zack's return.

"There is an arc and a story left to be told, so don't assume anything," Peterson said.

The show's bosses and cast members also revealed what fans should expect in the 12th and final season of "Bones."

According to TJ Thyne and Michaela Conlin, the series will have a proper goodbye.

"I think the next 12, we're just excited to say goodbye the right way," Thyne said, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter.

"I'm also really glad that we have the opportunity to honor this show with a proper ending. After all the episodes we've done, that's really special," Conlin, meanwhile, said.

Deschanel said that she hopes her character will not meet an untimely demise next season.

"I hope that there's some kind of happy ending on some level, although I know there's going to be some sadness in the season."

"Bones" season 12 premiere is expected to be aired by FOX as part of the midseason line-up.
