'Attack on Titan' season 2 release date, spoilers: next season airing before end of the year

Attack on Titan Wit Studio

It was previously reported that Wit Studio, the animation studio behind the highly successful first season of "Attack on Titan" and its follow-up OVAs, has included "Attack on Titan" season 2 in their 2016 schedule. According to a report from GameNGuide, it is likely that the season will launch by the end of the year's second quarter.

This would give "Attack on Titan" season 2 a July premiere date if there are no further delays. The studio is currently prioritizing their new series, "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress," which is set to be released in the upcoming months. It is expected that the second season of "Attack on Titan" will also launch simultaneously with a new video game.

It is important to note that there is a new game launching for the PS4. The game initially launched in Japan in February and is scheduled to launch for North America and Europe by the end of August, hinting that it may launch by the time the second season of the anime hits the middle mark.

According to the report, the anime will also closely follow what was laid out beforehand in the manga series instead of straying far from the source material, a mistake that many fans claim as the reason why the live-action adaptation of "Attack on Titan" was poorly received.

If this proves true then season 2 will focus primarily on the rebellion against the royal family, which is speculated to have ties with the origins of the Titans and how these large monsters came to roam and terrorize mankind. New forms of Titans will also be introduced as well as new powers, such as the ability to control other Titans.

It was previously speculated by fans that the reason for the second season's delay was the fact that the manga did not have enough material for the anime to adapt but a previous report did confirm that this was not the case, as the creators stated that the delay was due to the production on "Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress."
