Apple iPhone 7 rumors, release date: Flagship getting curved glass casing, other upgrades, says analyst

Is the iPhone 7, the iPhone 6s's successor, getting a curved glass back? Apple

New reports say that Apple will make a drastic change in the appearance of the iPhone 7. Rumor has it that the device will wear a curved glass casing made of liquid metal.

This way, the iPhone 7 will give users an ergonomic feel and comfortable grip on the phone while making sure that the smartphone is as sturdy as rubber.

Apparently, this design has always been at Apple's disposal as the company filed a patent for it back in 2013. But it looks like it is only in the iPhone 7 that the Cupertino-based company found perfect use for it.

According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple is trying to put out something unique and that it wants the iPhone 7 to stand out among the sea of metal-cased flagships out there.

"We expect the 2017 new iPhone model to adopt a structural design similar to that of iPhone 4/ 4s, meaning it will be equipped with glass on both the front and back sides, and a metal frame surrounded the edges," Kuo stated in his latest research note obtained by Macrumors.

"The difference is that the new model will likely come with a curved screen and curved glass casing," the analyst added. Kuo believes the iPhone 7 will come with a 5.8-inch AMOLED display but the nature of its design will make the next-gen iPhone look smaller than the 5.5-inch iPhone 6s Plus.

The analyst added that the iPhone 7 will boast a more advanced biometric security technology, possibly facial or iris recognition. Wireless charging will also be a thing in the flagship.

Kuo boasts an impressive track record when it comes to Apple's future plans, which gives his research notes greater credibility. Of course, it is still advised to take this with a pinch of salt.

Nevertheless, Apple's desire to stand out and innovate makes all these design breakthroughs likely.
