Anna Duggar says Josh's affair was a betrayal 'for those who call themselves Christian'

When it was revealed earlier this year that Josh Duggar from the cancelled TLC show "19 Kids and Counting" cheated on his wife using the Ashley Madison website, everybody's thoughts and concerns went out to Anna, the mother of his four children.

During a candid interview in the new Duggar documentary called "Jill and Jessa: Counting On," Anna tearfully recalled the struggles she faced upon learning about her husband's double life. According to her, the ordeal was doubly difficult because Josh is a self-professed Christian who other people used to look up to.

"It was definitely a hard thing," she said. "I think it is such a betrayal for a spouse to go through what we're walking through... It was hard to realize that it was such a public thing, and so, not only was it a betrayal against me, but it was also a betrayal for those who call themselves Christian."

For Anna, getting into marriage means that a couple should make a "vow before God to be loyal to each other." So when Josh cheated on her, he broke the vow that they made to God.

"So, from my heart, it was just like, how could this happen in our marriage?" she explained. "Josh was my first love, my one and only, but I knew that my only hope was to cling to my faith, because I knew if I went off of what I was feeling, I would turn a mess into a disaster. In the stun and shock of everything, I was just praying to God to help me respond to this."

Anna's sisters-in-law are actually amazed by the quiet strength she has exhibited throughout this ordeal. "Anna is amazing," said Jinger. "She displays to each one of us what it means to have unconditional love, and she is walking through this better than any one of us could have ever imagined."
