Previously, it was rumored that the first-gen Samsung Galaxy Tab S would not be getting an Android Marshmallow update. However, the rumors turned out to be untrue, as the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 is currently receiving its new Android platform.

The new Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is rolling out to the lineups under the Samsung Galaxy Tab S series. According to Phone Arena, a reader sent an update that his Galaxy Tab slate has just received an OTA notification for the Marshmallow update. The tipster reportedly added that the update weighs in at 900MB, so as with previous Android version roll-outs, a steady data connection is preferred.

Prior to the tipster's notes, speculations suggested that the first-gen Galaxy Tab S slate will not be getting an Android Marshmallow update. Fans were waiting for the update notification, since its tablet follow-up, the Galaxy Tab S2, began receiving Android 6.0.1 in the middle of the year. In addition, previous supposed leaks have already surfaced online, showing benchmark listings of a Galaxy Tab S running Android Marshmallow.

However, Samsung Netherlands supposedly went on record, saying that the update is only for the Galaxy Tab S2. The original Galaxy Tab S will remain on its Android Lollipop platform.

Having the original Galaxy Tab S slate updated to Android Marshmallow is welcome news to fans, since this means that both lineup iterations are already updated to the latest platform. IT is soften the blow of the rumored Galaxy Tab S3 being a no-show at the IFA 2016. Prior to the Android Marshmallow update news for the Samsung Galaxy Tab lineups, it is said that the Galaxy Tab S will not be getting Marshmallow since a new follow-up is already waiting.

Meanwhile, though the original slate iteration is already on Android 6.0.1, it is expected that it will be the last update for the Galaxy Tab S, and that the tablet will not be getting an update to the new Android Nougat version.
