Zimbabwe Churches Experience Growth Despite Uncertainties

|TOP|Amid the political and social uncertainties faced by many in Zimbabwe, churches across the country are experiencing a growth in the number of people turning to the Gospel for the answers to their daily struggles.

According to Greg Yoder, who has been working in the country with Christian World Outreach, the situation for many is horrendous.

“The inflation rate is nearly 1,000-percent. With that it's hard for people to buy anything they need. Unemployment is around 80-percent,” he said. “There (are) food shortages and fuel is always hard to get."

The situation has even begun to affect CWO’s work in the country, disrupting in particular their series of leadership and development seminars and orphan outreach, reports Mission Network News.

Despite these daily hardships, God is still transforming lives by using CWO to help train leaders to be used in evangelism and other ministries, says Yoder.

The seminars are also helping the local church despite the damage done by the fuel situation. "Because of the seminars that have been coming into some of the towns and villages the pastors are working together now,” said Yoder.

“These have brought unity into the towns so that the different denominations are working together to share the Gospel."

He went on to testify that the hardships have only made it easier to share the Gospel. “When there's a difficult situation people realise the things of this earth don't satisfy all the needs that you have,” he said.

“That seems to be what happens when there are difficulties around and so people are looking for answers."
