World Vision is to support mothers in the Musanze District in Rwanda who own small vegetable gardens by providing them with over 2000 goats, piglets and chicken, through its Development Assistance Programme (DAP) this year.

The regional project coordinator, Jean De Bonheur
Muyandamutsa in Musanze town, said: "We are going to increase our development assistance to mothers in the district this year. The move is intended to improve food security and encourage house hold agricultural production in the three districts of Musanze, Gakenke and Gicumbi with particular emphasis to vulnerable groups."

Munyandamutsa also said DAP will give out food rations to about 360 people living with HIV/AIDS and who are on Anti Retroviral therapy in Nemba hospital, Rwaza and Janja health centres.

Other programmes highlighted for this year include helping farmers improve local cattle breeds through artificial insemination to about 300 cows and planting tree nursery beds.

According to Muyandamutsa, DAP works with sector leaders to identify very poor families whom they give the work of making terraces and planting trees and who are paid food under a programme called Food for Work.

On last year's achievements, he said DAP carried out progressive terracing activities to over 10,000 hectares of land and planted over seven hundred thousand agro forestry trees in Musanze and Gakenke Districts to promote environmental conservation.

Needless to say, the effort of terracing and plantation plus supporting cattle farming is need of the time. Congratulations. God will bless you one and all participating in this holy mission.
