World Emergency Relief Ships More Vital Supplies to Iraq and Lebanon

World Emergency Relief (WER), a global coalition of Christian organisations, has stepped up its humanitarian aid shipments to Iraqi and Lebanese communities affected by conflict in the Middle East region and in desperate need of basic goods.

The latest shipment of 15 tons of emergency supplies adds to the two 40 foot containers which left the UK on December 13 for delivery to WER's partner organisation Heart of Mercy based in Amman, Jordan.

One container of food and clothing has been shipped in conjunction with Feed the Children UK. The other was a consignment of relief aid, including essential pharmaceutical and medical supplies, donated by Glasgow the Caring City and Morningside Pharmaceuticals of Loughborough.

Kent-based makers of outdoor clothing, Páramo Directional Clothing Systems, donated high-quality warm clothing to the shipment of goods which will go to Iraqi and Lebanese children and their families, many of whom have been left homeless by conflict and are in desperate need of humanitarian assistance, particularly through the winter months.

The supplies will be distributed through Heart of Mercy to local organisations working with all sectors of communities in Beirut and neighbouring towns in southern Lebanon, as well as among Iraqi refugee communities within Jordan.

Heart of Mercy is a relief and development agency with substantial experience of working in Middle East crisis areas. Since 2003, Heart of Mercy and their associates, Manara, have been providing relief supplies and support into Iraq, working in Baghdad, Musol, Kirkuk and Basra areas.

This shipment is in addition to pharmaceutical and medical supplies which were delivered to Lebanon by WER UK, in conjunction with WER global offices, in August and November 2006.
