Rumors are circulating that Colin Farrell will take on a lead role in the second season of "True Detective".

According to Deadline, HBO is in negotiations with Colin Farrell to become one of the lead characters in "True Detective" season 2. This is backed up by Josh Hill's post on TrueDetective.com.

"I can tell you that Colin Farrell is deep in negotiations to play one of what is expected to be three main roles in Season Two. HBO has been mum about cast so far, as rumors have swirled that Jessica Chastain and some others will be one of the other leads. HBO would not confirm any of the potential castings, but I am confident that Farrell will be in the cast," he wrote.

Although it seemed that Colin was not really in the original casting list, many fans welcomed the rumor with excitement. He is deemed fit to play a leading role of an older character mentioned to date. However, a confirmation from the party of Colin Farrell has not been given on whether he will be joining the show.

Meanwhile, show creator Nic Pizzolatto said that the script of "True Detective" season 2 is halfway finished. He also revealed that next season will feature four main characters rather than the initially rumored three lead roles.

"#True Detective Twitter EXCLU: The 1st script for the 2nd season is IN & agency sources tell us it features one MALE lead & male/female co-stars," The Wrap reported.

The show creator also confirmed that season 2 will be shot in California. There were rumors that the second season will centrally revolve around the "secret occult history of the U.S. transportation system," but Pizzolatto remained tight-lipped about it.

HBO has not announced the premiere date of "True Detective" season 2 yet. However, reports claimed that the series will be back on air in January 2015.
