Much-loved British actor and presenter Tony Robinson has officially opened a new Methodist housing development in Clayton, Bradford.

The Rowanberries housing development has been built by the Methodist Homes for the Aged (MHA), founded by the Methodist Church in the Forties.

The development contains 46 apartments designed for independent living, supported by 24-hour on-site staff, reports the Methodist Recorder.

Ten of the apartments within the development are specially built for dementia sufferers.

Robinson is most noted for his character Baldrick in the "Blackadder" comedy series and as the presenter of hit archaeology show Time Team.

"This place is great," he said at the opening, according to the Methodist Recorder. "It means that couples can stay together even if one of them has got Alzheimer's.

"You would have thought that would be the case for everybody across the country, but it's not."

MHA also runs care homes Pennystone Court in Blackpool and Avonleigh Gardens in Oldham, while further dementia care is provided at Harrogate.

Well done Tony Robinson, and the Baptists with their help for the handicapped in Congo. What a relief it is to get away from the gay-bashing brigade and into some real Christian witness.
