Siloam Christian Ministries has launched a sponsored challenge to raise funds to help some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the world.

The Sinai Desert Challenge from 18 to 25 April 2009 offers participants the unique experience of travelling through the mountains and desert terrain of the Sinai with Bedouin guides whilst making a lasting impact on those who are in desperate need.

Helping the vulnerable to turn their lives around has come full circle in areas like India. Siloam began its work of using healthcare, relief aid and education as a vehicle for the Gospel in South India. One of the success stories in this area is a young lady named Devi Bala. Like other children at risk, she grew up in a Siloam children's home. Then she became the first to qualify as a nurse so that today she is helping others.

Admitted to a Siloam rescue centre in the Philippines, a little boy named John Ray Carlo has become another success story. When taken into care at 10 months, his tiny, shrivelled body weighed just less than three kilograms. Now he is thriving as a cheerful, healthy child with a hopeful future.

Siloam cares for vulnerable adults as well as children through more than 40 projects worldwide.

UK Director Richard Norton explains, "We warmly invite people to
take up this challenge. If you choose to participate, you will be helping to actually change lives - including yours.

"Your experience of a sponsored challenge will encourage you as you enable vulnerable children and adults to move on with their lives. Please join us to make a lasting difference."

This Trailblazers Sponsored Challenge is part of the Saltmine Trust charity which uses stringent criteria to select tour operators. Participants will be led by competent Bedouin guides and experience camping out as well as eating traditional food cooked over an open fire. This is a moderate grade challenge which involves trekking and some scrambling up steep slopes to enjoy the sunrise over Mount Sinai.
