Thousands of primary-school children heard about the real meaning of Christmas this winter thanks to Scripture Union and a number of churches across the country.

Innovative presentations run by churches in Slough, Leeds, Cambridge and Milton Keynes told the story of Christmas – focusing on the birth of Jesus – to primary school children through a variety of games, dramas, question and answer sessions, music and baking mince pies!

Wayne Dixon, Scripture Union schools worker in Slough and part of the first Christmas presentation with Slough Baptist Church, said that the children enjoy learning about Jesus.

Dixon said, “Over time, the reason for the season has been lost in all the fluffy stuff of Christmas. We know how exciting Christmas is for everyone so the presentation retains the fun elements of Christmas, while showing the significance of Jesus’ birth. The children love it and it’s one of the first things they talk about when I visit a school the following year.”
