Samsung Galaxy S6 release sooner than expected due to Galaxy S5 sales plunge and iPhone 6 competition

Reports are hinting that Samsung is rethinking its overall strategy and production starting next year.  And due to a lot of factors, it seems like the company is getting pressured into releasing the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 sooner than later.

The pressure is primarily due to the low sales of the Samsung Galaxy S5 for the last two quarters. The recent third quarter results showed that the net profit of the South Korean tech giant declined sharply, brought about by the unpopularity of the Galaxy S5 handset. The figures have been in a steady decline since the smartphone's release earlier this year.

The decrease in sales is because of lot of rival handsets with higher specs and features. One of the rivals of the Galaxy S5 is the new iPhone 6 released in September. Even though Apple's handsets have been in the market for a relatively short period of time, the devices already received high praises from both critics and consumers. A lot of people opted for Apple's smartphone, pulling down the sales of the Galaxy S5 further.

Another factor that dented Samsung's net profit is the rising competition, specifically Chinese OEM manufacturers like Xiaomi and Lenovo.

Thus, Samsung is reportedly hoping to turn the tables and to ramp up the profits by introducing the Samsung Galaxy S6 earlier than its usual release date. Previous reports claimed that the Galaxy S6 launch would take place in March 2015, a day before the Mobile World Congress kicks off on March 2.  It is said that Samsung is hoping that its upcoming flagship smartphone would sell well to make up for the company's losses.

Apart from the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S6, the company was reported to revamp its smartphone lineup by decreasing by 30 percent the number of smartphones it would release next year.  Moreover, Financial Times reported that there will be changes in Samsung's management lineup. Samsung Electronics' co-chief executive Shin Jong-kyun is rumored to be replaced. However, there is no official word from the company yet.
