Playstation 5 vs. Xbox Two release date: Which of the two consoles might launch first?

Rumors about both the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Two have already begun to emerge, but will either of the two consoles actually be released significantly ahead of the other?

As of now, details about both consoles are still largely unknown, although some rumors have hinted that the two may be on different timelines.

First off is the PlayStation 5, although at this point, it's worth noting that Sony has not announced anything official when it comes to the rumored console.

Still, rumors surrounding the Sony console have suggested that it will be launched fairly soon, possibly even as early as 2017.

The 2017 prediction seems to be a product of sheer optimism at this point. With Sony yet to even acknowledge the existence of the rumored console, suddenly launching it by next year seems highly unlikely.

The immediate outlook for the Xbox Two is not too clear either, but it comes with at least some semblance of confirmation.

In an interview with The Verge, Xbox boss Phil Spencer indicated that fans will be getting a new console from Microsoft, and that players can "fully expect" that to be the case.

Spencer also reiterated that they are committed to keeping Xbox One users engaged, and he also wants to keep them invested in new products as well.

Spencer's comments would seem to indicate that Microsoft is already thinking about the Xbox Two, and that may translate to them being able to launch their next generation console ahead of Sony, although it's admittedly too early to tell at this point.

As for what the next-gen consoles are expected to feature, both are currently rumored to provide users with games running at 4K resolutions.

Both of the consoles are also rumored to utilize virtual reality (VR) technology to help make their games more interesting and with both Sony and Microsoft expected to release their own headsets, this may end up being the case.

More news about the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Two may be made available later on.
