Premier Christian Radio has secured a digital licence and will begin broadcasting throughout London on DAB during the Easter holiday. The 11-year-old station currently broadcasts to London and beyond on medium wave, Freeview, Sky and the web, but the new DAB licence will allow listeners in the capital to receive a signal from almost anywhere in London.

Peter Kerridge, Premier Radio's Chief Executive said, "We at Premier are excited to begin broadcasting on DAB. We currently hold an audience of around 200,000 on medium wave and we're confident that the new digital licence will allow even more Christians in London and the surrounding areas to tune in to Premier for worship, Bible teaching and Christian news."

"Premier broadcasting on DAB isn't just good news for the 200,000 listeners who tune in on medium wave across London every week, it's also good news for Christians in the greater London area who previously have not been able to secure a strong signal on medium wave."

Official figures suggest that there are already 40 million people in the UK who are able to receive DAB digital radio. This is equivalent to 80 per cent of the population, and will continue rising over the next few years.

With high street retailers selling digital radios for as little as £40, Premier have predicted a rise in their London based audience. "One of the key factors in deciding to secure a DAB licence was to provide our listeners with every opportunity available to tune in to Premier. This obviously includes the station being available on new platforms like DAB." Kerridge continued.

"Unlike traditional analogue stations, Premier listeners won't need to remember the station's frequency, and there's no twiddling dials to find the best reception." Kerridge said "If you're in the London area, Premier radio will be tuned in accurately, all you need to do is select Premier by name."
