Photo competition focuses on communication as a human right

Posted: Thursday, January 19, 2012, 9:18 (GMT)

The World Association for Christian Communication has launched its annual photo competition.

The theme this year is “Communication for All” and draws from the idea that spaces and resources in the public sphere should be for everyone to “engage in transparent, informed and democratic debate”.

Organisers say they are looking for photos that will illustrate the notion that “communication is a basic human right, essential to people’s dignity and community”.

They are also welcoming submissions that demonstrate how communication promotes democratic values or social justice, or helps to “restore voice and visibility to people”, particularly vulnerable or disadvantaged groups”.

The winner of the best photo will receive a $500 cash prize. Five runner-up photos will receive $200 prizes.

The closing date for the competition is May 1, with winners announced later in the month.
