Nottinghamshire YMCA is doing its bit to help locals give up smoking by teaming up with the city's free NHS stop smoking service New Leaf.

Together, they will run a once-a-week stop smoking clinic at the YMCA's All Saints Wellness and Family Centre where residents can take the first step towards quitting by coming for free advice and support.

The clinic will be supported by New Leaf associate adviser Sandra Fowkes, who is able to prescribe nicotine replacement therapies like patches and chewing gum.

As a former smoker, Ms Fowkes is all too familiar with the struggle that smokers face to quit.

She said, however, that it was "great to see the change in clients once they've stopped".

"I like working at the YMCA and it's true what people say - the YMCA really is changing people's lives," she said.
