'Jurassic World 2' spoilers: Sequel may feature weaponized velociraptors

"Jurassic World" is one of the most successful films of the year, financially being topped only by "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." Given how popular the dinosaur-filled film has been, it is already moving with a sequel, and according to a recent report it may feature weaponized Velociraptors.

According to a report from Crossmap, the report goes that the new film will feature fully trained and weaponized Velociraptors, the vicious dinosaurs that Owen (Chris Pratt) had learned to associate and train in the first film. It is possible that more than one company have their own group of weaponized dinosaurs at this point.

It is currently unknown how long the gap between "Jurassic World" and "Jurassic World 2" will be but if the rumor is true then it may be several years. In the first film, Dr. Wu (B.D. Wong) escaped the island with a bunch of dinosaur embryos packed and is likely going to sell them to the highest bidder.

The first film also teased dinosaurs being used as weapons. It was pushed in the film that further training and genetic engineering could turn them into the most powerful biological weapons akin to super soldiers. However, the bidder in the film, Vic Hoskins (Vincent D'Onofrio), died and it is likely a different military group will support Dr. Wu.

This coincides with what "Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow stated a few months back with Wired.

"What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?" the director explained at the time. "And Dr. Wu says in the film, when he's warning Dr Mesrani, 'we're not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur.'"

Colin Trevorrow will continue to pen the script for "Jurassic World 2" but will not direct the project due to his commitment to direct "Star Wars Episode IX."

"Jurassic World 2" will release on June 22, 2018.
