Director Colin Trevorrow recently sat down with the Wired UK and gave a few hints on what the plot of "Jurassic World 2" may be. He confirmed that the seeds of this plot were planted in the first film. His statements make it clear that not every sequel will involve tourists in a park.

A sequel to "Jurassic World" was inevitable given that it garnered favorable reviews and over $1.5 billion in the box office, topping "The Avengers" as the third highest grossing film of all time. To succeed with a sequel, they'd have to do more than just put a group of people in another island filled with dinosaurs.

"[It will not be] just a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island. That'll get old real fast," the director explained. "And when you look back at nuclear power and how that started, the first instinct was to weaponize it and later on we found it could be used for energy."

He continued to explain that future installments may see several companies harnessing the technology of creating their own dinosaurs, and Dr. Wu (B.D. Wong) even states this in the film.

It is possible that "Jurassic World 2" may explore the consequences of numerous companies causing havoc with their own weaponized dinosaur projects or the aftermath of such, going in the route of "Planet of the Apes" where few humans survive a dinosaur-infested world.

As pointed out in a report from /Film, the idea of someone else taking control of the technology to breed dinosaurs isn't new to the franchise. In "Jurassic Park," Dennis Nedry (Wayne Knight) attempted to steal embryos which he would sell to a rival company. This rival company, BioSyn, also attempted to steal adult dinosaurs in "The Lost World."

"Jurassic World 2" is scheduled to hit theaters on June 22, 2018.
