GTA San Andreas Steam version updated but 17 musical tracks removed

Rockstar released a significant update on the Steam version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas over the weekend, but not everyone is happy about it.

The developers of GTA San Andreas removed 17 musical tracks from different radio stations featured within the game due to its licensing contract.

These songs had been featured during the game's first release several years ago, but when the licenses expired, Rockstar decided to remove them completely instead of paying for another licensing fee.

The music removed from the Steam version are also the ones that were taken away from the Xbox 360 console as well as the mobile phone versions.

However, there was an adverse effect for the players because of the developer's decision. According to several reports, the games saved before the update was rolled out refused to load after. They instead opened a new game without intending to.

But despite the issues, Rockstar did not release any statement or resolution to resolve the problems that gamers experienced these past few days.

Good thing a GTA Forums member named Silent managed to create a patch that addresses the issue of the missing saved games. It also restored the game's compatibility to play the saved files before the update took place.

The so-called SilentPatch includes:

  • Aspect ratios are now correct and not squashed, like they used to be
  • 1.0/1.01 save games will not be rejected now
  • 1.0/3.0 settings file will not be rejected now
  • 10ms frame delay has been removed. As a result, game now locks properly on 30 FPS instead of 25 FPS
  • Mouse should not lock up randomly when exiting the menu on newer systems anymore
  • 16:9 and 5:4 resolutions are now selectable

Just recently, the game developer celebrated the 10thyear anniversary of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas by re-issuing the highly popular game on Xbox 360.
