Google Nexus 6 release date nears as Nexus 5 discounts emerge

The Google Nexus 6 release date may come soon as new deals for the current Nexus 5 emerged online.

The Nexus 5 has been sitting on the shelf for a year. When it was released, it came with a cheap price tag compared to other flagships smartphones with almost the same specs and features. However, a further discount on the price is deeply appreciated.

eBay is offering the current 16GB Google Nexus 5 for $324.99, which is $25 off the standard price and comes with free shipping. There is no discount for the 32GB variant of the smartphone. The 32GB still costs $400 in the Google Play Store.

Slashing the price is nothing new for the Nexus 5 as it has received discounts in the past. One of the indications that a new device is coming is when the price of its predecessor significantly decreases. This is to sell as many devices as possible or to exhaust all of the remaining stocks of the current device.

Meanwhile, previous reports claimed that Motorola is working on the Google Nexus 6. The upcoming device is rumored to be named as Nexus X. Some of the rumored features of the Google Nexus 6 are:

  • 2.6 GHz Snapdragon 805 Quad-core Processor with 3GB of RAM
  • 5.2-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD Display
  • 32GB storage
  • 12 or13MP rear-facing camera
  • 2.1MP front-facing camera
  • Android 5.0 L
  • WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and other connectivity features

Speculatations for the launch of the Nexus 6 (X) also point to Halloween, which is on October 31. This date still falls on the October release date of the Nexus smartphones. Other reports claimed that Google Nexus 6 release dates could be pushed back to November as the company is rumored to release a slew of devices in the fall, including the Nexus 8 and a Google wearable smartwatch. However, nothing is official until the tech giant announces its roadmap.
