Haminu Dramani gave Ghana, who lost their group opener to Italy, the lead after he robbed Claudio Reyna, but Clint Dempsey's first-time strike made it 1-1.
However, Stephen Appiah restored Ghana's lead from a controversial penalty to complete the scoring for the match.
Pundits worldwide were quick to heap praise on the achievement by the African country. Ghana football legend Abedi 'Pele' Ayew described Ghana’s 2-1 victory over the USA as "history in the making".
Pele said, “It feels great because this has never happened to our country.“I am so proud. I think the boys have played very well. We are the first African team here to win twice and score two goals in a game.”
Pele, during his playing days was one of the first African players to make an impact in Europe, and won the 1993 European Cup with Marseille.
The Ghana football team has also been given support from Christians worldwide, as the squad has been seen a number of times openly praying during training and following matches.
Prior to their shock win against the Czech Republic, the Ghana team was seen holding hands and praying as they began a training session.
