A fireman who died trying to put out a blaze at a pub in Edinburgh has been honoured at a church service on Sunday.

Family, friends and colleagues of Ewan Williamson, 35, were present at the international Firefighters Service of Remembrance at the Church of St Bartholomew the Great in London.

The service was followed by a parade to the National Firefighters Memorial nearby, where a wreath of white lilies was laid.

Mr Williamson served with Tollcross fire station’s Green Watch and Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service.

He was the first firefighter to die in active service in the history of Lothian and Borders Fire Service when he fell in July tackling a fire at the Balmoral Bar.

On the day of his funeral, 300 firemen representing every fire service in the UK lined the procession.
