Young people all across Edinburgh have been taking part in a new Gospel choir project launched this week.

Edinburgh Goes Gospel is a new choir project that will give the city’s young training in the unique style of Gospel worship singing, reports Edinburgh Evening News.

The project has been launched by the city council and the Scottish Arts Council’s Youth Music Initiative for children in years S3 to S6 – 13 to 17-year-olds.

The young participants will be equipped with all the skills needed to become a great Gospel singer through special training and practice sessions organised by Project Music Workshops prior to the launch of the Edinburgh Schools Gospel Choir.

The new project was welcomed by the education leader for the Scottish capital, Councillor Ewan Aitken.

"I am absolutely delighted that we are launching a gospel choir for young people in Edinburgh.

"Through this we will be able to extend the opportunities available to young people who want to sing - especially primary age children.

“Thanks to funding from Youth Music Initiative, we are also able to focus on older pupils.

"Gospel style singing is attractive to many young people."

The training sessions are being held in the city’s Traverse Theatre all this week.
