Major adjustments had to be made within the BAU team in "Criminal Minds" season 12 after one of their finest vacated his spot last season.

Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore) decided to surrender his patch in season 11 after he realized that he and his loved ones will be in constant danger due to all the criminals that they have to face.

However, spoilers claim that Morgan's closest friend Reid Spencer (Matthew Gray Gubler) will be the most affected Derek's decision. This could even have a possible effect on his rapport with the incoming team member, who will be portrayed by "CSI: Miami" alum Adam Rodriguez.

According to reports, the introduction of Rodriguez's character on the team will be very difficult for Reid. He might possibly act indifferent around the new BAU member, who came from the Fugitive Task Force of the FBI.

But according to executive producer and showrunner Erica Messer, Rodriguez's still-unnamed character will be a part of a huge storyline for the upcoming season.

"We have exciting storylines planned for his character and the entire BAU team as we head into our 12th season," Messer revealed.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez is not a newcomer when it comes to police procedural drama. He is best known for portraying the role of Eric Delco in "CSI: Miami" for 11 seasons. He also appeared in recurring roles in "Jane the Virgin" and "Empire."

Meanwhile, actor Thomas Gibson told The National in an interview that there are still a lot of things to look forward to in "Criminal Minds" season 12 despite its long existence on TV.

"Well, we still haven't exhausted all of the crazy ways in which people are horrible to each other," the actor who portrays the role of BAU's special agent Hotch said.

"Criminal Minds" season 12 premieres on CBS on Sept. 28.
